The Tortoise and the Hare

How many times have you or someone you know said “Ok, that’s it. I’m going on a diet.”? Or, “I’m getting serious about the gym this time”? We all know someone who has said that, or we have been someone who has said that. Everyone knows that being healthy is important. While some know more than others on how to be healthy, we can all agree that being healthy is important to a happy life.

So what has kept you from making a change in your life to be healthier? What has caused the failed diets, or the failed exercise plans? I’m sure at times it can feel overwhelming for anyone when they think “I have to change EVERYTHING about my lifestyle or I won’t be healthy.” When we think that way we feel something called “discouragement.” It’s discouraging to feel like you HAVE to change EVERYTHING about yourself. Sure it’s easy to be pumped up and gung-ho about making healthy changes at first, but how long can anyone keep up that enthusiasm for drastic change? How long can you hold down the gas pedal in your car before it runs out of gas? Feeling discouraged about being able to commit to drastic lifestyle change is not a sign of weakness, or a sign you will always be unhealthy; it’s a sign that you’re human!

So today, I don’t want you to try to make an overhaul of your life to become healthy, I’m asking you to simply take one step towards being healthy. Watch the video below, and decide on ONE way you can improve your health. I’m not asking to you to take out ANYTHING from your current lifestyle or diet, but to simply add one healthy thing. It could be as simple as 10 pushups every day, to eating a raw fruit or vegetable with every meal. Just like the tortoise in the old children’s fable, stick with what you know you can do. Don’t be the hare who starts off so fast then ends up quitting by the roadside. Find your ONE healthy addition, and stick to it! Keep doing everything else you have been doing, but stick with the one new thing and see how far that takes you in the coming weeks, months, and years. Slow and steady wins the race, and that is equally true when it comes to becoming healthier.

What healthy addition will you be making to your life today?
